Robert Timpany is the Idaho Chief of Operations for the Industrial Control Systems Cyber Emergency Response Team (ICS-CERT), an operational division of the department’s National Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Center (NCCIC) and the DHS Office of Cybersecurity and Communications (CS&C).

Mr. Timpany has over 20 years of Cybersecurity experience and brings a strong industrial control system experience to DHS. Before coming to the ICS-CERT, Mr. Timpany, was the ICS Cybersecurity Subject Matter expert for the control systems at Idaho National Laboratory. Prior to that work at the laboratory, Mr. Timpany held a wide variety of roles in department management, program management, and individual contributor to a wide variety of control systems and wireless testing.

He retired from the US Army after twenty years of service with assignments in the Infantry, Special Forces, and Cyber. In his Army Cyber assignments, Mr. Timpany conducted Blue Team and Red Team assessments of Army networks as large as 65,000 network nodes. In addition, he was responsible for maintaining operational status of all the cyber systems in the Army’s Operation Center during wartime operations in a 24x7x365 environment.

David Aucsmith is a senior computer scientist and technology leader with over 35 years of computer and communications security experience.  He has worked in a variety of security technology areas including secure computer systems, secure communications systems, security architecture, random number generation, cryptography and cryptographic systems, steganography and network intrusion detection.  Aucsmith is a former officer in the U.S. Navy and has written extensively on cybercrime, cyber espionage and cyber warfare.  He has been a representative to numerous organizations including the technical advisory boards of both the National Security Agency and the National Reconnaissance Office.  He is co-chairman of the FBI¹s Information Technology Study Group and a member of the President¹s Task Force on National Defense and Computer Technology.  Aucsmith was U.S. industry representative to the G8 Committee on Organized, Transnational, and Technological Crime during the Clinton administration. Jeff is a member of the Trustwave SpiderLabs Vulnerability Assessment Team and helps maintain automated scanning solutions for Trustwave that aid in protecting millions of users.  As part of his duties, Jeff regularly evaluates novel vulnerabilities, participates in PCI evaluations, and researches for new vulnerabilities in popular products. His areas of interest include the internet of things, critical infrastructure, and crypto-currency ecosystems. Prior to working for Trustwave, Jeff worked in web development building PHP, Ruby on Rails, and Java apps for several years before making the switch to security in an effort to help protect users on a larger scale.  Jeff has spoken previously on IoT vulnerabilities at the IoT village during Defcon 24 and at Rootcon in the Philippines. Prior to that, McClurg served as a Supervisory Special Agent within the FBI, assisting in the establishment of the FBI’s new Computer Investigations and Infrastructure Threat Assessment Center or what was later known as the National Infrastructure Protection Center within the Department of Homeland Security. McClurg also served, for a time, on assignment as a Deputy Branch Chief with the Central Intelligence Agency, helping to establish the new Counterespionage Group and was responsible for the management of complex counterespionage investigations. He also served as a Special Agent for the FBI in the Los Angeles Field Office where he implemented plans to protect critical U.S. technologies targeted for unlawful acquisition by foreign powers and served on one of the nation’s first Joint Terrorism Task Forces.

McClurg was recently voted one of America’s 25 most influential security professionals; holds a J.D. Degree from Brigham Young University; is a member of the Utah Bar Association; Co-chaired the Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC) of the U.S. Department of State; sits on the FBI’s Domestic Security (DSAC) & National Security Business Alliance Councils (NSBAC); and served as the founding Chairman of the International Security Foundation.
